She has this bolt upright awareness that she is modeling, while also this pensive expression as though her thoughts are very far from the present.

Emphasizing the sense of pressure imposed downwardly on the stool.

Man at the Bottom of the Stairs

I completed this as a demo for a workshop.  My wife liked it and wanted to keep it.  We keep it at the bottom of the staircase, so we tend to call it "Man at the Bottom of the Stairs"

Vine on Antique Paper

The paper from 1842 has a slickness in a way, but also beautifully accepts the charcoal and holds it.  Marks in graphite and charcoal both just glide on darkly with very little effort.

Awkward Legs

There is almost nothing there.  The awkward twist in the legs has that mark of something so authentic that you couldn't have made it up.

Profile on Antique Paper

Graphite on paper from 1842.  It has a very special feel to it, unlike anything I've worked on.

Dancing Back

I like the way the energy swings up from the pelvis and out through the top of the head.

Pregnant and Intense

It's pretty quick and raw, but I like the expression.
